22nd June, 2012, Kabul: Three suicide assaulters lashed out at a lakeside hotel in Kabul, taking hostages as well as continuing hour long gun fight with the Afghan security forces, according to reports appeared on Friday.
The assaulters, armed with grenades, machines guns and other explosives attacked Spozhmai hotel on Thursday night at around 11 pm. The gun battle went on till this morning, told the Kabul police criminal director Mohammad Zahir.
Eighteen people, which include children and women, have been rescued from the spot. According to sources, a commander of Afghan National Army told that two assaulters have already been killed. Reports also suggest that one policeman has also been killed in the gun fight.
Afghan National Army commander also told that four people have jumped from the window of that 2-storey hotel and bowed in the lake to cover themselves from the attackers. The commander also expressed that their forces have encircled the whole spot. The gun battle is still on. They are very cautious in their approach as still there are many people inside the hotel.
A Taliban spokesperson told that they attacked that place as foreigners was engaged drinking and in other activities that are banned by Islam.
