20th June, 2012, Islamabad: On Tuesday, Pakistan plunged into another new political uncertainty after Supreme Court disqualifies Yousuf Raza Gilani as the Prime minister of Pakistan and asked Asif Ali Zardari, the President of Pakistan to appoint a new Prime Minister.
A bench led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry brought out the verdict in answer to many petitions that questioned Fehmida Mirza, the National Assembly Speaker’s stand not to disqualify Yousuf Raza Gilani, after his conviction around two months ago.
The bench also asked the Election Commission to write out a notice that Yousuf Raza Gilani is no more the Prime Minister of Pakistan. The ruling of Supreme Court has been anticipated in political circles for some time now.
PPP’s top leadership already had a meeting chaired by Asif Ali Zardari. The names circulating as the next Prime Minister are Chaudhary Ahmed Mukhtar (Power Minister) and Makhdoom Shahbuddin (Textile Minister), who is said to be leading the race.
