Ship sinks off Alaska killed 4, 1 missing
Mar 24th, 2008 | Category:World NewsA fishing vessel has been sank off the coast of Alaska in which four people were killed & one was missing on Sunday local time. An official of Coast Guard said that the Alaska Ranger reported to the Coast Guard at about 2:50 am that it was having rudder problems & had begun taking on water, prompting the 47 crew members to assemble the inflatable life rafts & abandon the ship.
42 of the fishermen were soon rescued by the Coast Guard & a fishing boat that was in the area, some 120 miles west of Dutch Harbor on Unalaska island.
However, four people died in the incident. Two helicopters & a Coast Guard plane were dispatched to search for the missing fisherman & to look for the Seattle-based Alaska Ranger itself. It is unclear whether the vessel had completely sunk by now.
