6th June, 2012, Washington: On Tuesday, the White House confirmed that Abu Yahya al-Libi, the second-in-command of Al Qaeda died in a drone strike, with a top Obama aide calling it as a huge blow to this terrorist group.
At his daily press conference, Jay Carney, the White House Press Secretary, told that “Al-Libi is dead,” but he did not mentioned the place where his life came to an end. With reports flying that Abu Yahya al-Libi was killed in Pakistan, Carney told, “I can tell you that our intelligence community has intelligence that leads them to believe that al Qaeda’s number two leader is dead,”
“Removing leaders like al-Libi from the top of al Qaeda is part of the effort of the Obama administration to defeat and dismantle the terror network,”
“I can’t get into details about how his death was brought about, but I can tell you that he served as al Qaeda’s general manager, responsible for overseeing the group’s day-to-day operations in the tribal areas of Pakistan, and he managed outreach to al Qaeda’s regional affiliates.” added Carney.
After al-Zawahiri, forty-nine year old al-Libi was one of the most eminent figures in the terrorist outfit with a bounty of US $ 1 million.
