A great part of Maldives’ economy is depending on tourism. Mohammed Nasheed, the president of Maldives told that the government has decided to open all the spas.

Authorities asked to close all spas following a protest in the capital of Maldives. The demonstrators were protesters against alleged anti-Islamic activities in spas. An Islamist opposition party accused that all the spas and massage parlors are secretly used for prostitution. They even demanded to stop the sale of alcohol in regions where local people live. Under pressure, the government ordered to close the spas. Majority of spas were open despite the ban.

Maldives Association of Tourism Industry has filed two civil court cases to overturn the ban. The tour operators were very worried as they were largely depended on the foreign tourists.

In last few days, the tourism industry was badly affected. Around 800000 tourists visit this small island nation, in the Indian Ocean, including celebs and honeymooners. Last year alone, more than 800000 tourists visited the nation.
