A five-story vacant apartment building in Manhattan collapsed on Tuesday around 3 p.m.(local
time). No one was injured when the building on East 124th Street near Park Avenue in upper Manhattan collapsed but tens of thousands of train commuters were affected, their route either canceled, crowded or slowed.
A local resident said, “You didn’t need an engineering report to see the building was falling down. But inspectors said this is fine, this is not structural”. An official said that the building was known for drug trade and prostitution.
Fire officials said they were able to search the structure before its front collapsed. A fire official said “We found no one inside it”.
