Fire kills 9 at German carnival
Nine people were killed after a fire gutted an apartment building in southwestern Germany while revelers were celebrating carnival. A fire official in Ludwigshafen told reporters that at least 60 people were injured in the blaze. Thirty five of them remained in hospital & the rest of the wounded were treated and released on Monday. The fire broke out about 15:23 (GMT) on Sunday in a four-story apartment building, city police said in a statement. Its cause was unclear. Firefighters battled through the evening & into the night to bring the fire under control. Two adjacent apartment buildings were evacuated as a safety precaution, fire official said.
