Dalai Lama: “At this moment, we need US help”
The Dalai lama has said on Tuesday that the Tibetan people need the help of the US government in improving the situation in his Himalayan homeland, which was rocked by anti-China protests last month.
Dalai lama said along with US Undersecretary of State Paula Dobriansky before they began a closed-door meeting at the University of Michigan, “At this moment, we need your help”.
Dobriansky, President George W Bush’s Special Envoy for Tibet, said the meeting with the Dalai Lama provides a “timely opportunity” to discuss the situation in Tibet.
Dobriansky said, “The Bush administration has expressed concern about the situation in Tibet & has urged restraint. In particular, President Bush has been a steadfast supporter for the need for dialogue between His Holiness & Chinese leaders”.
