Ban Ki-moon fears civil war risk in Syria

22nd May, 2012, Washington: On Monday, Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary-General of United Nations expressed his concern regarding the ongoing violence in Syria that may turn into an all-out and may spread to Lebanon also.united nation picture

The United Nations press office wrote that the Secretary-General told that the world is at a pivotal moment in the search for a peaceful settlement to the crisis. He was really troubled about the risk of an all-out civil war and was concerned regarding the outbreak of related fury in Lebanon.

On Monday, security and medical sources told that at least 2 persons have been killed in a fight in Beirut. Derek Plumbly, the United Nations special coordinator for Lebanon, also raised his voice about the incident and asked all the parties to stop fighting. He also stated that differences should be addressed through talks. In New York, Farhan Haq, the United Nations spokesperson told that Derek Plumbly is in touch with all the parties.
