Afghanistan says it appreciates efforts to save student journalist

The government said in a statement, “Afghanistan praising the concern expressed on his behalf, the office of Hamid Karzai President is closely monitoring the case & working with Afghanistan’s judicial system to find a just solution in agreement with Afghan law and our nation’s international obligations”. 23 years old Parwez Kambaksh, was sentenced to death after he was tried & find guilty in a Mazar-e-Sharif court on January 22 for distributing an article that commented on Quranic verses that deal with women. Part of the article discussed whether a Muslim man should have the right to marry more than one woman, & prosecutors reckon the work offensive to Islam. Parwez Kambaksh was a journalism student at Balkh University. It is said that Parwez Kambaksh did not write the article but his name was added after he printed it from the Internet in October. He has been intern since then.
