Afghan security forces thwart militant attack in Kabul; kills 8

2nd August, 2012, Kabul: on Thursday, security forces of Afghanistan have killed around 8 insurgents in a fight in Kabul early morning. The Afghan force has also told that they have thwarted a Taliban attack. The gun battle continued for around seven hour.Afghan security forces picture

Soldiers of NDS (National Directorate of Security), the Afghan intelligence agency launched the attack in the dark. They got into a building just an hour after midnight in the Pul-e-Charkhi district. The insurgents were using this place as their base camp.

According to reports, a spokesperson from the National Directorate of Security told that they have killed 8 of the insurgents and also impounded explosives. The insurgents aimed to get into a building in the city and launch attack on government offices and security forces. On the other hand, Taliban issued a statement saying that the operation was against their fighters.

In recent past, the Taliban and the Afghan security forces have confronted each other in a number of occasions. On 15th April, the Taliban insurgents launched a huge attack in Kabul and invaded a construction site. On 22nd June, the militants had a 4 – day long fight with Afghan security forces on a lakeside hotel near Kabul.
