In 1998, Nokia took on the top position from Motorola, but in this year’s first quarter, Samsung shipped 93m handsets whereas Nokia shipped around 83m handsets. The South Korean giant also reported their biggest quarterly profit which is $ 5.15 billion and assured that their Galaxy smartphones, which outsell Apple’s iPhone, will be upgraded in the coming week. The firm is also expecting this new device to be a worldwide hit in the mobile phone market.

The firm also added that their mobile communications and IT division that makes the smartphones, drew a 4.27tn operating profit during the time as revenues soared up 86% from earlier year.

Samsung’s head of investor relations Robert Yi told that they cautiously expect their earnings momentum to continue going ahead as competitiveness in their major businesses is increased.
