20th June, 2012, Pune: India’s second largest computer seller Dell is all set to sell PCs preloaded with Ubuntu, a free operating system.
From this month, Ubuntu installed netbooks and laptops will hit the 850 Dell shops in the country. At present, the company is only selling personal computers loaded with Microsoft Windows OS. Dell with begin selling Ubuntu laptops with 2 models from Inspiron series. Worldwide, Dell has 28 models that come with Ubuntu OS. Ubuntu is sponsored by Canonical, a UK based company owned by Mark Shuttleworth.
This operating system came out seven years ago and since then sixteen versions have been released with no virus attacks till now. With its current version, general users may find it easy with its improved user interface.
This OS loads quite faster than Microsoft Windows and does not slacken with use. Ubuntu can also be installed on computers that are currently running on windows. To use all the features of this operating system, one needs to install this as an operating system in a separate part of the hard disk so that both Ubuntu and Windows can be accessed.
In south Delhi, Dell shops have already began exhibiting Ubuntu installed computers.
