Android malware apps increased by 35 percent in second quarter of 2013; reports


23rd August, 2013, New Delhi: A recent reported suggested that malicious softwares that are developed to target devices that runs on Android has risen by thirty-five percent in April – June 2013. Most of these malwares are made to steal users’ banking information.android logo picture

The increase was marked by fraudulent dating, entertainment apps as well as weaponized legitimate apps that generally pose as useful tools. The report stated that in the 2nd quarter of 2013 Android based malware achieved a thirty five percent increase rate that was not seen since early 2012.

Banking malware apps and Backdoor Trojans were detected as the most vulnerable threat this quarter. Ransomware that generally holds a computer hostage till the user pays to free it has doubled compared to previous quarter.

Among all the mobile operating systems, Android has seen the highest number of malwares.
