Dinajpur, April 14 — A powerful storm hit North Dinajpur of West Bengal last night and at least 32 people have been feared dead. About 1000 people are injured, many are feared to be still under debris and 50,000 mud huts were effected.
Telephone and electricity systems in the area are not working after the storm.
Civil defence minister Srikumar Mukherjee said the storm struck North Dinajpur district, nearly 315 miles (500 kilometre) northeast of Kolkata snapping electricity and telephone lines in the area.
He also added that hundreds of people suffered injuries.
Hematabad, Raiganj and Kiran Dighi were the worst-hit villages. Police and rescue have recovered 31 bodies till now.
