Jorebungalow, 8 kilometers from Darjeeling, experienced an hour long snowfall, on Tuesday. Tourists, who came to Darjeeling, made their way in large numbers to have a glance of the fall in this otherwise less-travelled area.
It was around 2pm when clouds gathered. A light rainfall and strong winds added to the expectation of snowfall.
The snowfall was quite intense but joy did not last long as strong wind dispelled the cloud and soon the sky became clear. The minimum temperature was looming around 2 – 3 degrees Celsius. Darjeeling sky, however, remained clean. The last time when Darjeeling experienced snowfall was in 2006. Reports suggest that it is difficult to forecast heavy snowfall as the weather is changing daily.
Most tourists, who came here, never experienced snowfall before. A tourist from Kolkata told that this is what she was expecting and she was quite lucky to experience that. Some of the tourists are even ready to extend their stay in expectation of further snowfall in the coming days. Though the snowfall was light compared to previous occasions, yet it was enough to make the visitors happy.
