‘Change’. This is the slogan what Mamata Banerjee had set before the last assembly election. ‘Change’ has not only entered in Bengal politics; it has also entered at the 17th Kolkata International Film Festival. Yesterday, at the Netaji Indoor Stadium around 5000 people witnessed the inauguration of the Kolkata International Film Festival in such a way which has never been done before. Mamata Banerjee wanted to make it a public affair rather than a closed door one.
Mamata Banerjee turned it into a star studded event with the Badshah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan who was invited by the Chief Minister. It was not only SRK, but other film personalities like Sharmila Tagore, Supriya Devi, Sandip Ray, Ranjit Mullick, Aparna Sen, Prosenjit, Dev and many other Tollywood stars were present at the event.
In her speech the Chief Minister welcomed all people across the world to come and join. She added that if everyone helps; West Bengal can be number one. ‘Brother’ Shah Rukh Khan was thankful to Mamata ‘didi’ for making the film festival in such a huge manner.
Previously in the Buuddhadev Bhatterjee era, the inauguration used to be a closed door affair with few invited people. All the invitees were very happy as for the first time most of them have been invited to witness the inauguration of Kolkata Film Festival. Most of them admitted that they have never been invited before. Some said that this is the first time it is looking like a true inauguration, instead of just another formal government event.
