Maoists targeted anti-landmine vehicle in Jharkhand

48-hour strike in West Bengal, Bihar, Chaattisgarh, Jharkhand and Orissa

An anti-landmine vehicle was targeted today by Maoists in Jharkhand amid a 48-hour strike called by Maoists in five states. The security has been put on high alert in the states.

The targeted anti-landmine vehicle was on its way to Ghatshila in East Singhbhum district that borders West Bengal. According to police, the vehicle was not damaged. There has also been no news of any casualty.

The bandh has states are West Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Orissa. The bandh has been called in protest against security forces that stormed Lalgarh in West Midnapore district of West Bengal in past few days.

Two Maoists have been reported to been gunned down in a fierce battle with police in Malkangiri in Orissa. This happened during a combing operation in a forest area by a team of police and jawans of the elite Special Operation Group (SOG). The ultras opened fire from their hide-out to the police and jawans.
