2nd July, 2013, Ranchi: Six police personnel, including an SP, were killed following a Naxal attack in Dumka district in Jharkhand on Tuesday. Reports suggest that the Naxals attacked Pakur district’s Superintendent of Police Amarjit Balihar’s convoy when he was coming back from a meeting.
The Naxals ambushed Balihar’s convoy in Kathikund area after triggering a landmine blast and they opened fire at the police force indiscriminately. Amarjit Balihar’s driver and 3 of his bodyguards were also killed in the incident. After the ambush, the gun fight between the Naxals and the police forces went on for around thirty minutes.
It has not been reported how many rebels were involved in the attack. Two companies Central Reserve Police Force rushed the incident scene as soon as the attack took place. The attack came as a surprise to many as the the area where the attack took place is not considered a Naxal hot-spot.
