In a bid to promote peace, harmony and unity in his state, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi started his 3-day fast on Saturday.
Modi announced that the fast is a “Sadbhavna Mission” which aims to promote peace, harmony and unity in the state. Modi’s first day fast will be attended by top BJP leaders and NDA allies such as L K Advani, Prakash Singh Badal, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, S A Ramdas etc.
In an open letter, Modi said he wants blessings of people to overcome his weakness and difficulties and work more intensely for the development and progress of Gujarat. Modi said that the 2001 earthquakes and 2002 riots were appalling events which created a frightful atmosphere and those days were of intense suffering.
On the eve of his fast, Modi said that the constitution is supreme and as the CM of the state, anyone’s pain in the state his pain. The comments are being construed as his first expression of lament post Godhra riots which killed several people, most of which were Muslims.
