15th June, 2012, Gdansk (Poland): Last night in Gdansk Chelsea striker Fernando Torres found his scoring in national team’s jersey as they beat Ireland 4 – 0 in their second match in Euro 2012.
After a disappointed game with Italy in their first group league match, Spain played their short passing game which put them on the verge of making it to the quarter final. With this loss, Republic of Ireland is now out of the knock out stages.
Spain held the ball possession for most of the time and once they held the ball for around nine minutes at a go. Fernando Torres hit the net for Spain in 4th minute. David Silva scored in 49th minute. Torres scored another one in the 70th minute. In 74th minute, Torres was replaced by Cesc Fabregas, who made it four for the defending champs in the 83rd minute. Spain kept the pressure on the Irish team throughout the match.
In another match of the day, Italy and Croatia settled for a 1 – 1 draw. Pirlo scored for Italy in the first half. Mandzukic equalized in the 72nd minute.
