7th June, 2012: Victor Valdes, the Barcelona goalkeeper has admitted that they will feel the loss of both Carles Puyol and David Villa at the Euro 2012. Both Barca players are not in the Euro squad due to injuries. Villa, one of the top strikers in Europe, was unable to recover from an injury sustained in January at the FIFA World Club Cup game and Carles Puyol went through a knee surgery previous month.
Valdes added that both of them are very experienced players and they are very important members of the team. Spain is the favorite team to win the title this year and they are looking forward to be the very first nation to defend the Euro title. Still, the Barca goalkeeper insists to concentrate on one thing at a time.
While speaking about other teams, he told that all teams in the Euro 2012 are great in their own way and all will stand up. They have to move step by step. Spain’s first opponent is Italy and they try to defeat them. After that they will think about the next game.
He also agreed that Spain is one of the teams to defeat since they are the defending champ as well as the 2010 World Cup champ. Spain’s first match is against Italy scheduled for 10th June.
