FINAL UPDATE: Slovakia won by 3-2

Johannesburg, June 24 — Slovakia, as independent nation, are making their debut in the FIFA World Cup. The team were expected much better than what they have performed so far in the World Cup 2010. They are at the bottom of Group F with only one point from two games. Slovakia’s first game was a 1-1 draw against New Zealand and lost the second game against Paraguay by 2-0. So, in fact the Slovaks are closer to the exit door.

Slovakia needs to win today’s match against Italy to make a possible way to the Round of 16. If New Zealand wins against Paraguay in the other match played samiltaneously, Slovakia and Paraguay would finish level on 4 points. If New Zealand loses today’s match or if it is a draw, then any margin win of Slovakia would do.

On the other hand Italy was counted as one of the overwhelming favorites, but their unvonvincing two draws in Group F has put them down. They are second in the group and a win against Slovakia in today’s match will book their place in the next round.
