31st July, 2013, Kathmandu: Defending SAFF champion India have been drawn in relatively easier group for this year’s SAFF championship that will start from 1st September. India, currently ranked 146th in the world, is in the same group with Pakistan, Bangladesh and hosts Nepal.
Last year’s runner up Afghanistan, ranked 140th in the world, is in the same group with Maldives, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. The tournament will start on 1st September and will go on till 11th September.
In the 2011 SAFF Championship, Afghanistan drew its group stage match against India 1 – 1. However they lost to India in the final match.
In this edition, India will start their campaign against Pakistan on 1st September. The next two games are against Bangladesh and Nepal on 3rd and 5th September respectively. The two top teams from each group will made it to the semi finals that will take place on 8th September; while the final will happen on 11st September.
SAFF Cup champions will get $ 50000; while runners-up will get $ 25000. The losing semi finalist will get $ 10000 each.
