22nd August, 2013, Panaji (Goa): More than 650 kids will take part in a grassroots football league jointly organized by Goa Football Development Council and Vodafone. On Thursday, at a press conference, the organizers stated that children under twelve years of age are now training at 6 six nurturing centres which are operated by Goa Football Development Council. There will be more than six-hundred matches that will be played over a period of six months as a part of 2013 Vodafone GFDC Rising Stars Football Festival.
According to reports, Goa Football Development Council chairman Rufino Monteiro told that this would be the biggest football activity of its kind in the state. The best talent which would emerge at the end of the event would be nurtured further and could be picked up by the football clubs in the country and Goa.
Monteiro added that their target is to bring more than 5000 young and talented footballers under its wing in over two years and make them ready for a professional career.
