19th May, 2012, Munich: Chelsea are expecting that their bitter memory of Champions League final loss in 2008 will inspire them to win Saturday’s Champions League final against Bayern Munich in Munich, Germany.
In 2008, at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, the London club suffered a penalty shoot-out defeat against Manchester United that left the whole team in tears. On Saturday night, Chelsea’s veteran members like Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard will probably have their last shot in the most prestigious club football competition and Chelsea would be very pleased with the way they have reached the final of this competition.
England midfielder Lampard told that they are very pleased to reach the final. Two – three months ago no one believed that they could reach the final. They have good as well as bad memories in Moscow, but the main memory is defeat as it is in any final. It took Chelsea a long time to get back in this position. Chelsea has won several cups and leagues in England, but with experience, one realizes that they need to take the positives out of defeat.
Another player, Drogba especially has grim memories of that final as he was sent off in the extra time. The Ivory Coast international thinks that it was a tough moment for him as well as for the club.
