16th July, 2013, Mumbai: Indian badminton player Ashwini Ponnappa spoke about her preparations for the forthcoming World Championships in Guangzhou, China, next month, on the sidelines of Indian Badminton League’s school program initiative – Shuttle Express in Mumbai.
Ponnappa told, “Both Tarun and Pradnya will be in Bangalore to train with Tom John and we will leave for the Pune tournament thereafter and then return to Hyderabad. Staying together while preparing for a world meet makes the training easier.”
She added that there has to be more focus on doubles players to motivate players. She told that the the doubles players are not mentioned most of the times that makes people think that they are not performing well. The Indian mentality lies in analyzing players on the basis of their singles performance. People do not bother about players’ rankings.
Speaking about the upcoming Indian Badminton League, she told that lot of companies are interested in employing badminton players and this must motivate youngsters as the financial security would be guaranteed.
