6th March, 2013: On Wednesday, International Hockey Federation said that Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in New Delhi will host men’s Junior World Cup that will start from 6th December and continue till 15th December. Apart from this tournament, New Delhi will also play host to men’s Hockey World League Finals that will held from 10th January to 18th January, next year.
The Junior World Cup will feature sixteen top teams from across the world. Apart from India, other teams that will play in the tournament, are South Africa, Pakistan, Argentina, Belgium, New Zealand, Netherlands, Canada, Spain, Germany, Korea, France, Malaysia, Egypt, England and Australia.
In a statement, FIH president Leandro Negre told that the Junior World Cup is one of the gems in the event calendar. They get the see the future of hockey on display. When looking through past athletes that have competed in the Junior World Cup, it reads as a who’s who in international hockey.
Speaking about Hockey World League Finals, he told, “I can think of no better venue for our inaugural Hockey World League final tournament than India. “With this event we are bringing the future of hockey to a country that has one of the richest traditions in our sport.”
