After long 13 years India regained the Azlan Shah title. India defeated the hosts Malaysia by 3-1 in the final of the 5-nation tournament today.
The goals series are: Arjun Halappa (8th minute), Prabhjot Singh (20th minute) and Shivender Singh (41st minute). The single goal of the host by Misron (11th minute) reduced their margin.
India won the tournament last in 1995.
The effort of the forward on Indian side bore fruit as early as in the 8th minute of the match when Arjun Halappa scored a field goal to give the country the lead.
However, the lead was shortlived for the Indians as Misron in the 11th minute drew parity to the delight of the home crowd through a field goal.
Indian forwards next stepped up in attacking formula and started making repeated inroads into the opponent’s citadel and with this effort managed to regain the lead with another field goal of Prabhjot 9 minutes later to go into the breather 2-1.
Shivender, the center-forward of the Indian team, joined the party when it mattered and made it 3-1 only 6 minutes after the second half started.
