Chandhok won’t Race in 2012, Karthikeyan still Undecided

by Tuhin

Even after a successful formula 1 race in Buddh International Circuit in India in 2011, no Indian driver is expected to grab a racing seat in 2012 season.2012 indian drivers picture

Indian driver Karun Chandhok has already declared that he will not be racing in the 2012 season that begins in 16th March in Melbourne, Australia. Another Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan is still to earn a new contract.

Last season, Chandhok raced in German Grand Prix for his team Lotus (named as Caterham from next season). In the second half of the season, HRT replaced Karthikeyan by Daniel Ricciardo except for the inagural Indian Grand Prix.

Indian motorsport fans expected that this the scenario will get better for Indian drivers, but the reality is very different. Only two driver’s seats are available for the 2012 season; one with Williams and one with HRT. Karthikeyan told that he is hoping for the best.

In Formula 1, a lot of decisions are made on commercial considerations. Chandhok told it is frustrating to watch races from the sidelines; the best option is to carry on as a reserve and test driver and he is still talking to teams for that.
