20th August, 2012, Townsville (Australia): On Monday, India’s lower order batsmen held their nerves to get a one wicket win against Pakistan in a low scoring match to get into the semi final match if the U – 19 cricket World Cup.
Batting first, Pakistan made only 136 runs. In reply, chasing a relatively small target, India was 124 for 6 wickets, but they lost 9 wickets when it was 127 on the board in 41 overs. The final twenty five minutes, Mumbai boy Harmeet Singh and Punjab lad Sandeep Sharma held their nerves to snatch a narrow 1 wicket win at the Tony Ireland Stadium with 2 overs to spare.
Singh and Sharma played out 7 overs to make the remaining ten runs with Pakistani players put on pressure by closing in their fielders. The win came when Harmeet Singh pulled Pakistani bowler Mohammad Nawaz to the square-leg field to score 2 runs to reach the target.
The winning shot triggered off wild celebration among Indian players. After the match, the Pakistan skipper told that they made some mistakes and that is what cost them the match.
In another quarter final match, New Zealand defeated West Indies by 3 wickets. On 23rd August, India will play against New Zealand in the semi final match.
