September 04 — The tainted trio Pakistani cricketers alleged for spot-fixing are reported to have admitted before the Scotland Yard that the money found in their hotel rooms were given by bookie Mazhar Majeed.

GEO TV reports that the three, captain Salman Butt, pacers Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Asif, maintained that the money was a part of sponsorship contracts that had been signed with different commercial organisations.
The three stated that Mazhar Majeed was their agent in securing sponsorship deals and they were unaware that he was a book-maker.
On Friday, in London the cricketers appeard before the Scotland Yard inquiry.
Tafazzul Rizvi, legal advisor of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated, “They denied that this money was given to them for spot-fixing like bowling no-balls etc. The players also showed their written contracts for these sponsorship deals to the police. That is why they were allowed to go without any charge.”
He added that he was not trying to defend the alleged cricketers, but was only giving the information.
He also mentioned that the three cricketers had chosen their agents of their own and PCB has nothing to do with it.
