3rd April, 2012, Mumbai: Sachin Tendulkar has quit the captaincy of IPL side Mumbai Indians and Indian spin sensation has named Harbhajan Singh as the new skipper of the team. According to the team management, the switch was very smooth.
Mumbai Indians’ first match will be held on 4th April against Chennai Super Kings. Sachin discussed this issue with Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani before taking a decision on this matter. He told that right now he needed a break from the responsibility of leading the team. When he discussed this matter with Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani, he was touched by the wholehearted and gracious support offered to him. He further added that Mumbai Indians is more than just a team for him, it is like his family.
After knowing that he will be leading the team, Harbhajan Singh told that it is huge honor for him as both Sachin and Nitabhabhi showed faith on him. He added that he is committed to do the very best and look forward to leading the team. In the Champions League T20, he led the team in the absence of the little master.
Tendulkar never had a great success as the skipper of the national team, but his tenure as MI captain was full of ups and downs. In the very first season of the Indian Premier League, MI did not qualify for the semi finals. In the 2nd season, his team finished at the 7th spot. They were runners up in the 3rd season and previous year MI was knocked out in the play-off matches.
