22nd August, 2013, Wellington: On Thursday, New Zealand cricketer Martin Guptill joined the chorus for more international matches for the national team as they struggle to heighten their profile in the rankings. The Kiwi batsman added that New Zealand would struggle to lift its 8th placed test ranking if they do not play matches against quality opponents.
Recently, legendary Kiwi all-rounder Richard Hadlee stated that the Black Caps need to play more test matches. He added that it seems that New Zealand’s value to other teams is not important enough to keep them long enough in their country to make money. There must be some commitment to honor future tour programs.
Martin Guptill told that it is time when other teams must take note of the quality of the New Zealand cricket players. He added that from what he read, Sir Richard’s comments were more to do with Test cricket than anything else and they were struggling a little in Test at the moment.
He thinks that the only way to get better is by playing more test matches and they could also keep developing as a team.
