4th April, 2012, Chennai: The opening ceremony of the 5th edition of the Indian Premier League took place in Chennai with a blend of cricket and Bollywood along with a special performance by Katy Perry. Thousands of spectators gathered at the YMCA ground and jollied along with the performances of Priyanka Chopra, Prabhudeva, Amitabh Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor.
The American pop sensation Katy Perry, who got married in India in a traditional Hindu marriage ceremony in Rajasthan, burned the stage with her full Indian attire and her hit single ‘Teenage Dream’. She stole the show with his pure desi avatar.
The glittering ceremony fixed the tone for IPL whish is all set to start from Wednesday. This year the tournament will feature nine teams instead of ten.
Priyanka Chopra put up a spellbinding performance on her current hits. She ran around in the audience and urged the cricketers to dance. Later Priyanka interacted with the cricketers of Chennai Super Kings and she asked Dhoni and his boys to dance on hit Tamil single ‘Nakka mukka’.
Another star performer of the night was Kareena Kapoor who stole the audience’s heart with her dance performance on ‘Chhammak chhallo’ and many more songs.
Prabhudeva thrilled the spectators with his flexible and effortless motions. Among the other performers were Big B Bachchan, who appeared on stage for the very first time since his abdominal surgeries, and Salman Khan.
