25th August, 2012, Townsville (Australia): South Africa wracked New Zealand to grab the third spot in the ICC under – 19 World Cup. On Saturday, South African boys defeated Kiwis by 8 wickets at Endeavour Park. Earlier New Zealand and South Africa had lost their semi final encounter to India and Australia respectively.
In today’s match, New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat first, but South Africa bowled them out in 36.5 overs with just 90 runs on the board. Chasing a small total, South Africa never appeared to be in a difficult spot as they chased down the score in 14.4 overs. They made 94 losing two wickets.
South African left arm pace bowler Jan Frylinck took 2 important wickets of Kiwi opener Ben Horne and Will Young, their no. 3 batsman, in back to back deliveries, but was denied of a hat – trick. For the Kiwis, Joe Carter and Robert O’Donnell made 28 runs for the 3rd wicket partnership. Calvin Savage, who took three wickets in the match, broke the partnership by dismissing Robert O’Donnell in the 11th over. David Rhoda, the South African leg spinner took 4 for 26 runs.
For South Africa, Quinton de Kock made 50 in 43 balls with 9 boundaries. Theo van Woerkom and Ish Sodhi were the only two wicket takers for the Kiwis. Calvin Savage of South Africa was declared man of the match.
