26th May, 2012, Chennai: Chennai Super Kings, the defending champs beat Delhi Daredevils by 86 runs in the second qualifier match to secure a place in the final of the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League, at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday.
Daredevils won the toss and elected to bowl. Batting first, Chennai registered a massive total of 222 runs in 20 overs with the loss of 5 wickets. Opener Murali Vijay scored 113 runs in just 58 balls before getting run out by Warner. Murali hit 15 fours and 4 sixes in his innings. Dwayne Bravo (33 in 12 balls) and Suresh Raina (27 in 17 balls) was the second and third highest scored for Chennai. In reply, Daredevils has no answer to Chennai’s bowling as well as fielding. Delhi lost two of their important wickets when it was only 22 on the board. Mahela Jayawardena was the highest scorer for Delhi with 55 runs in 38 balls. Ross Taylor was the second highest scorer with only 24 runs. Rest of the Delhi batsmen could not stick to the wicket as they were bowled out for 136 runs in 16.5 overs.
This Sunday, in this same venue, Super Kings will take on Kolkata Knight Riders who will be playing the first ever IPL final. If Chennai manages to with the title this time, they will win it for the third time in a row.
