19th August, 2013, Sydney: Australian batsman Usman Khawaja, who is battling to hold his place in the Australian national team for this week’s 5th and final Ashes test against England, has got his central contract upgraded.
On Monday, Cricket Australia stated that Usman Khawaja’s central contract was upgraded for the 2013 – 14 season. Khawaja, the Pakistan born left handed batsman had struggled with his performance after he was promoted to the number three spot in the batting order in the ongoing Ashes series.
The 26 year old batsman has scored 114 runs in 6 innings at an average of 19 in this Ashes series. Khawaja has played 9 tests for Australia, in which he made 377 runs at an average of 25.13 with 2 fifties.
The 5th and final Ashes test will start on Wednesday at The Oval in London.
