Floods disrupted life in West Bengal

The flood situation in Midnapore district of West bengal has been turned worse on Thursday with fresh
areas inundated by Subarnarekha river, leaving nearly three lakh people marooned. Besides Narayangarh, Sabang & Pingla blocks, which were flooded yesterday, about 150 villages in Dantan blocks 1st & 2nd, about 60 km from Kharagpur, went under water last evening.
The army, pressed into rescue & relief operations in the district & in neighbouring east Midnapore since yesterday. At least four persons have been killed ….

Heavy rains lashed south China, 55 killed

At least 55 people have been killed over the past 10 days in torrential rains & flooding across south China & more gales & storms were expected in the coming days.
China’s National Meteorological Centre has said that the heavy rain would continue there & that precipitation in the provinces of Guizhou, Sichuan & Yunnan would be 30 to 70 per cent greater than in the same period last year.

14 killed in landslides in Itanagar

At least 14 people have been killed in landslides in different places in Itanagar on Saturday. Four members of a family were killed when a large chunk of earth fell on their hut on the slope of a hill this morning.
The rest of the fatalities were reported from different places of Neharlagun. Retired Governor Gen. J J Singh instructed the Deputy Commissioner to start the relief work & appealed to people to stop unplanned constructions in the state capital.

18 people have been killed in different parts of Maharashtra as heavy rains lashed Maharashtra on Thursday. Four people were struck by lightning in Kolara & Bhorsabhorsi villages in Buldana district of eastern Maharashtra. Cyclone Nargis poised to strike Tamil Nadu today

The weather bureau has predicted rain in Tamil Nadu following the development of cyclonic storm Nargis 700 km southeast of Chennai in the Bay of Bengal, leaving many worried.
Nargis is threatening to whip up speed and intensity, if forecasts by the US Navy’s Joint Typhoon Warning Centre (JTWC) are any indication.

Summer Vacations in Orrisa due to Heat Waves

All schools have been closed in Orrisa for the summer vacation, at least eight days in advance following heatstroke in Orrisa. At least 25 people died over the last three weeks due to heatstroke.
