Cloudburst after ceaseless rains since yesterday have left a track of destruction in Mangali, Chunni, Giriya, Sansari and Timada villages in the district. Power and communication lines are cut off including the national highways. Rishikesh-Gangotri and Rishikesh-Badrinath have been shut down because of landslides sparked by incessant rains. According to reports, the local administration has asked for help from army.

New Delhi, September 1 — Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati again wins politically Wednesday when Supreme Court vacated the stay order of Allahabad High Court on the creation of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Nagar district by renaming Amethi, the Lok Sabha constituency of which is represented by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Supreme Court decides the matter favoring Mayawati government on the ground that a petition similar to this was earlier dismissed by the high court.

A bench comprising Justices R V Raveendran and H L Gokhale said that the interim order passed by high court bench on August 18 should take into account the earlier order of its bench dated August 11.

The bench said, “Judicial propriety demanded that the high court should have considered the final judgement of August 11. It could not have taken a different stand.”

UP government moved the Supreme Court challenging the interim order of August 18 by the Lucknow Bench of the high court. The order of the bench stayed restoration of the new district till March 31, 2010 or till further orders.

The new district includes in it five tehsils of Sultanpur and Rae Bareli districts that is a part of Amethi constituency.

On May 21, 2003, Mayawati ordered the formation of this new district but after a change of guard, rival Mulayam Singh Yadav on November 23, 2003 scrapped it.

Aligarh, August 17 — The Mayawati government Tuesday decided to hike 20 percent in the price that is offered to the farmers as compensation for land acquired for a township along the Taj Expressway after facing protests.

In the early hours of Tuesday, a top state officials team led by state cabinet secretary Sashankh Sekhar Singh along with Mayawati government ministers held parleys with Ram Babu, the farmer leader, at the Aligarh airstrip.

Satender Veer Singh, senior Superintendent of Police, Aligarh, said:: “The package offered by the state government includes the provision of raising the compensation price offered to the farmers to Rs 570 per square metre (about 20 per cent higher than the earlier price).”

The farmer leaders are expected to place this new offer of the Mayawati government before the kisan panchayat at the dharna site.

Ram Babu, currently under arrest and at a private nursing home after complain of discomfort, may be produced today before a judicial magistrate.

State government also decides of setting up high-level committee under divisional commissioner to review other issues in the matter.

On Monday, the opposition top leaders addressed the mahapanchayat and extended support to the farmers.

Lucknow, April 03 — Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati ceases to wait for the approval of Governor B.L. Joshi for the Special Zone Protection Force (SZPF) Bill and makes a decision of raising the force within next three weeks.

The special zone security force will be deployed for the security and protection of buildings of historical and cultural importance, parks, statues and monuments that has been built by the Maya government in memory of dalit icons in Lucknow and Noida spending about Rs 10,000 crore.

The decision was taken by the state cabinet in an emergency meeting on Friday presided over by the Chief Minister.

According to the decisions taken, the Mayawati government will be recruiting about 1,200 ex-soldiers and ex-army officials and they will be commanded by an officer of the rank of an ex-Army colonel. The state home department will be taking administrative control of the force directly.

“We hope to complete the recruitment in the next three weeks,” said Cabinet secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh.

The expenditure on the special force will be about Rs 8 crore annually.

Singh said further that a bill was passed by both Houses of the legislature on February 18 and was sent to governor B L Joshi. The bill, however, is still pending for the approval of the governor. On March 26 the government sent to the governor an ordinance containing the provisions of the bill with minor amendments.

Singh added that through an executive order the government had decided to raise the force.

Noida, Feb., 20 – In a rare case, an Uttar Pradesh traffic sergeant was beaten severely by six teenagers and after ran over. It was reported that six teens were booked by the cop day earlier for drink driving.

The cop is now hospitalized in critical condition with broken legs and arms. He is 52 years old and booked six teenagers from Haryana who were from well to do families for drink and drive. He also took them to a police station.

All six attackers were bailed out next day and beat John Peter, the traffic police officer with hockey sticks when he was on duty. They also ran him over three times. According to hospital source Peter is now in critical condition.

The six teenagers have been arrested, though they ruse that the officer harassed them and claimed innocent.

“He (Peter) harassed us. We had come here for a wedding. He could have let us go,” said Parvin, one of the accused.

“Most of the accused belong to Faridabad and have been taken into custody. We are investigating if they have a criminal record,” said Ashok Kumar Singh, special superintendent of police, Gautam Budh Nagar.

Traumatized by the incident Peter’s daughter said his father was just doing his duty.

“His arms and legs are badly fractured. He is in the ICU. We have come from outside and are appalled at what is happening. We are not safe anywhere.” She said.
