The Gurmat Siddhant Parcharak Sant Samaj & the Damdami Taksal has called for a bandh in Punjab & Haryana on July 23 demanding the arrest of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. Damdami Taksal members are on dharna from July 9 against the failure of the Central government to arrest the Dera chief.

The Shiromani Akali Dal will vote against the UPA government when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeks a vote of confidence in Parliament on July 22. Power cuts reduced to 2-4 hours in Punjab

As a major relief for residents of Punjab, Punjab State Electricity Board has reduced the duration of power cuts to 2 to 4 hours per day following the reduction in demand for power due to heavy rains lashing the region.

SAD: PM never consulted Sikhs on N-Deal

The Shiromani Akali Dal has said that Manmohan Singh Prime Minister should have consulted Sikhs on the India-US nuclear deal before seeking the party’s support on the sensitive issue.

Six used bombs recovered in Amritsar

Punjab Police has recovered six used bombs which were laying abandoned in the garbage. A senior official of Police has said that when employees of Municipal Corporation were on their routine job found six bomb shells from garbage.
The empty bomb shells approximately 5 inches long were packed in the gunny bag. The official said that such type of explosive material being used in the army.

Six kg opium seized, 2 arrested

The Punjab police has arrested two notorious drug smugglers, believed to have political connections, & recovered 6 kg of opium from them in Amritsar. Both the arrested drug smugglers, Gian Singh & Jagjot Singh, of Tarn Taran district were intercepted by a police patrol party near the old Sabji Mandi Hall Gate.
