Organizers Of Metallica Concert Arrested

Following the cancellation of the Metallica concert resulting in huge anger among fans, police have arrested four people including a senior executive of the event management company which was to organize the show. Rajesh Chandwani, operational head of DNA Network which was to organize the show was among the four people arrested on charges of violating trust and cheating people. Organizers had cited “technical difficulties” in hosting the show. Soon after the announcement, the crowd which gathered at Leisure Valley Park in Sector 29 of Gurgaon went out of control and started vandalizing equipment. Many were reported to be injured in stampede.

Meanwhile, organizers said that all tickets will be refunded saying that full page advertisement on refunds will be put in the next 24 hours. People started lining up at about 3 pm and in the next three hours people were asked to move back as the barrier was giving away. As soon as it was announced that the concert was cancelled angry fans went on a rampage and damaged equipment. Some of the fans hurled plastic water bottles on the stage. DNA Network sold 25,000 tickets of the show whose price ranged from Rs 1650 to Rs 2750.

Huge Amount Of Explosives Found Outside Ambala Railway Station

Police have foiled a major terror plot by recovering over 5 kilos of RDX and detonators from a car parked outside Ambala Cantt station. While the explosives have been sent for forensic test, a team of NSG from Delhi has been rushed to the spot. According to sources Delhi Police Special cell got a tip following which they cautioned the Haryana Police. Sources also added that since RDX was connected to any detonator or timer, it could have been used to carry terror attacks somewhere else in the country.

The Indica car from where the RDX has been recovered has been handed over to the Haryana police while the explosive is being brought to Delhi. Authorities are trying to find out the owner of the car which bears a Haryana registration number. Police however believes that the registration number can be fake. Following the event, security has been beefed up at Ambala railway station and all roads of the area have been closed temporarily.

Bhajan Lal Passes Away At 80

Ex-Haryana CM Bhajan Lal passed away in Hissar hospital following a substantial heart attack on Friday evening. He was 80. Bhajan Lal twice ruled Haryana for a full five year term and was one of the political stalwarts of the state. Dr Ravinder Gupta who attended Lal said that he was suffered a major heart attack along with brain hemorrhage and passed away at around 5:15 pm. Last rites of Mr Lal will be carried on June 4.
Lal was a veteran Congressman who is credited for bringing together the non-Jats and managing to carve a niche for himself in the Haryana politics dominated by the Jats. Lal was born on October 6, 1930 and was a farmer by profession. He started his political career by contesting panchayat and block samiti elections in the early 1960s. He climbed up the political ladders pretty fast and got a major boost when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi lent him support.
Lal served the CM of Haryana from 1979 to 1982, 1982 to 1986 and again from 1991 to 1996. He also served as the Union minister of agriculture and environment during the Rajiv Gandhi government. After the Congress sidelined him for Bhupinder Singh Hooda as the CM of Haryana, Lal’s son founded a new party called Haryana Janhit Congress-BL.

Assailants Open Fire In Rohtak Hospital; Kills 2

In a gruesome incident two armed men stormed into a hospital in Rohtak in Haryana and open fired inside the emergency ward. Two people lost their life the shootout which has sent shockwaves across Rohtak. Despite the security guards chasing the shooters they managed to escape. The incident occurred in Rohtak’s PT BD Sharma Post Graduate Institute Of Medical Sciences. One of the persons killed is said to be Praveen who had come to the hospital to see his brother.

Meanwhile, V Kamraj, IG, Rohtak Range said that because of carelessness of the police, such incident has occurred and that the police is taking action. The assailants escaped despite a police van positioned outside the hospital. A security guard was killed in the shootout and according to another security guard, the deceased was shot from a point blank range twice.

May 07 — The class 8th results of HBSE Bhiwani Board and HBSE Board of School Education Haryana 2010 was announced. Students can check the results from the official website of Haryana Board of School Education or HBSE Bhiwani.

The Board of School Education Haryana (HBSE) had come up with the Haryana Open School aiming to offer education for all at their door steps. Moreover, the board is also trying to achieve the target of ‘Universalisation’ of Education’ at school levels.

The Chairman heads the Haryana Board. He is appointed by the State Government. Vice-Chairman assists the Chairman and he is also appointed by the State Government.

The board introduced the semester system of education in 2006-07 of academic year and this is the first board to do so.

Hooda sworn as Chief Minister of Haryana

Congress President Sonia Gandhi selects Bhupinder Singh Hooda as the Chief of Haryana. He has been sworn-in as the Chief Minister of the state for the second consecutive term on Sunday.

Governor Jagannath Pahadia administered the oath of office and secrecy at a simple function at the Raj Bhawan.

Hooda is expected to shortly constitute his Council of Ministers. He was chosen by Sonia Gandhi after several rounds of consultations with senior Congress leaders even though the party declined to get party strength in the Assembly.

Congress in the state emerged as the single largest party with 40 seats out of 90, but it cobbled a majority after securing support of 7 independents.

In last Assembly election Congress had romped home in 67 constituencies.

60 factories workers in Gurgaon on strike on Tuesday

GURGAON, India: After Sunday’s stone pelting and firing by the police at the Gurgaon Expressway in a clash between two groups of company employees of an auto component firm, a worker named Ajit Kumar Yadav, 26, died last night out of critical injuries.

In the protest of Yadav, workers of about 60 factories in Gurgaon and Rewari in Haryana plans for a strike work on Tuesday. Yadav was a worker at the Rico Auto Industries Ltd.

The companies that are likely to be affected are Sona Koyo Steering Systems Ltd, Hero Honda Motors Ltd, and Lumax Industries Ltd.

The Rico company workers struck work on September 21 after seventeen co-workers were expelled from the company on disciplinary grounds. According to the workers, the expelled colleagues were victims of helping form a trade union.

Pankaj Kumar Singh, a worker of Rico said, “After working for 13 years, I take home only Rs10,500 a month… Forming a union is the only way we can air our grievances.”

The strikes were termed to be illegal by the Haryana government on 1 October. The state government however has referred the matter to the labour court.

Assembly polls campaigning ends in Maharashtra, Arunachal, Haryana; Voting Oct 13, Counting Oct 22

The campaigning in Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh and Haryana Assembly polls ended on October 13 (Sunday).

The canvassing of four long weeks saw high profile leaders of national and regional parties hitting the campaign trail on a large scale. Personal attacks were very much seen in the campaign.

Though the Naxalites struck in Gadchiroli in Maharashtra but as a whole the campaign was peaceful.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party general secretary Rahul Gandhi undertook whirlwind tours of these states. The party is making full effort to retain the power in the three states.

BJP senior leaders L K Advani, Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, and M Venkaiah Naidu also campaigned vigorously. L K Advani also raised Ram Mandir issue while seeking votes.

Rajendra alias Raosaheb Shekhawat, President Pratibha Patil’s son, is pitted against from Congress against Sunil Deshmukh, the party rebel from Amravati constituency in Maharashtra.

Congress is seeking second term in office in Haryana. Congress also appears to be on a strong wicket in Arunachal Pradesh as CM Khandu Dorjee is among the 3 party candidates elected unopposed.

Voting will be on October 13 and counting on October 22.

Honda threatens to shut down Manesar factory in Gurgaon

Japanese auto major Honda threatens to shut the 2-wheeler plant in India. This came after the recent labour unrest at the Manesar factory in Gurgaon, outskirts of Delhi. The company negotiatd a new wage settlement with the workers but this has crippled the production of the company and has forced Honda to stop accepting new orders from dealers.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is the leader in the two-wheeler segment and it has invested about Rs 1,000 crore in the Manesar factory.

According to reports the production of the plant has been decreased by 50% due to the dispute. The estimated loss of the company is around Rs 250 crore.

Earlier in 2005 agitation at the same plant was in headlines when the workers were beaten up brutally in a lathicharge by the local police.

This time HMSI has petitioned to Punjab and Haryana High Court for relief and it has also said that it may shut operations in the country if the current situation persists longer. The petition of the company before the court is: “…since the product manufactured is of world-class quality, hence there is a demand for the product in the market. But if the present trend continues, the petitioner company (HMSI) may be forced to either to shift production to its other plants worldwide or shift out of the state of Haryana.”

The high court has sent, acting on the petition, notices to the Haryana government as well as to the labour union, asking them to file replies by 15th of October.

Haryana Assembly Elections : 1442 Candidates Still In The Race

The Haryana assembly election is slated for next month following Hooda Government’s decision to dissolve the assembly seven months in advance. It is tipped to become a bigger contest than in the past with nominations filled by 1,874 candidates. Of the 1,874 nominations, a whopping 432 nominations have been rejected during scrutiny on Saturday. That leaves 1442 candidates still fighting for a seat in the 90-seat assembly.

‘Nomination papers of 432 candidates, which mostly included Independent candidates, have been rejected due to one or the other reason. Nominations of remaining candidates were found in proper order,’ an official spokesperson of the election department said on Saturday.

The number of application was far greater compared to the February 2005 and February 2000 elections, with nearly 400 extra applications. The ruling party Congress applied for nominations in all 90 constituencies. Interestingly, the former deputy chief minister and four-time legislator Chander Mohan was missing from the list with 12 other big names.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi and Indian National Lok Dal president Om Prakash Chautala were among the popular figures to file their nomination papers on Friday, the last date for nominations. Election to the assembly is schedule to take place on Oct 13 and counting of votes will take place on Oct 22.

The Congress performed extremely well with victory in nine out of 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state during the April-May Lok Sabha elections this year. With the opposition in disadvantage, the Congress went in for early assembly polls hoping for another term at the state.

The contest on most seats will be multi-cornered as none of the major parties have formed any pre-poll alliance so far. Besides the Congress, there are at least four main political parties, namely BJP, INLD, HJC and BSP, that are in the race. Independents too will give good competition in certain constituencies. The contest on most seats will be between five to six candidates. Unlike the previous elections that were simply contests between 2 parties/alliances, 2009 elections guarantee a much tougher fight for any party that will win eventually.
