The club president told that top teams in I-League spend around 12 to 16 crore in a season; so, AIFF now raise the prize money as it would cover a lot of the team’s expenses. The prize money that the All India Football Federation offers now is not enough cover one of top players cost. There is also a pressure of retaining a champion team.

Churchill Alemao thinks that the direct entry of two new clubs might change the face of I-League and believes that better days are ahead for Indian football. He added that Indian football need more corporates, more sponsors and more teams.

Speaking about his team – United Sikkim’s performance in the I – League, he told that he should have been more involved with the signing of the footballers. He fells that the players and the coach gave their best, but nothing happened.

The former India captain added that finances have been a problem. The team have been running on gate sales, merchandise and sponsorships. The merchandise sales and gate sales have been good for them.

The approval from the Prime Minister’s office was processed by the sports ministry. Now, the All India Football Federation have to wait for a clearance from the cabinet before they submit the bid papers the world football governing body – FIFA.

Earlier in January, FIFA rejected India’s bid for the tournament as they did not get required assurances from the central government. FIFA wanted a written assurances on things like - accommodation of players, transport, foreign exchange inflow, tax exemptions, security and others.

The center has approved all the seven venues – Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Margao, Guwahati and Kochi – earlier proposed by the All India Football Federation. The government has also assured that they would help in the refurbishment and upgradation of the stadium.

The assurance from the government came at a time when FIFA officially invited bids from football associations who are interested to stage the U – 17 Football World Cup. Kushal Das, the AIFF general secretary, stated that it is good that the government is going fast to get this thing done.
