CBI to record statement of Surinder in 1984 riots case

CBI will record the statement of Bhai Surinder Singh on Thursday who was a key witness in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. The investigating agency contacted Navkiran Singh the lawyer of Surinder Singh`s Wednesday, informing him that his client should present himself in the local CBI office in Sector 30 at 11 am on Thursday to record his statement before DSP SS Kishore from Delhi.

Police nabbed 2 Haryana commandos in Rape case

Chandigarh police arrested two commandos of the Haryana police from outside the Haryana governor’s residence, after they were accused of raping a 40 years old woman.
The woman works with a local catering company. The woman said that the commandos stopped her as she was returning home late last night & taken to their quarters & then raped her. Police registered an FIR & investigating the matter.



Basavarajeshwari former Union minister dead

Basavarajeshwari the former Union minister died in Bellary after prolonged illness on Tuesday.
She was 86 years old. She had represented Bellary in the Lok Sabha for three terms.
Basavarajeshwari served as minister for state for women & child welfare in Narasimha Rao’s cabinet, was MLA for three terms & once MLC. She also served as deputy speaker of the legislative assembly.

Blast in Cinema Hall in Mumbai

A minor blast has been occured in cinema hall of Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon. The blast occured when the cinema hall was showing the film “Jodha-Akbar” by Ashutosh Gowarikar. The four persons are injured in this blast but mo report of any death. The manager of Cine Raj said that the explosion, which occurred before the film’s interval around 3 pm, left one seat damaged & 4 people injured.

A case of attempt to murder was registered against the Anatasio Monserratte alias ‘Babush’ Taleigao MLA of Goa on Wednesday. The MLA was formally arrested on Wednesday morning along with Corporation of the City of Panaji Mayor Tony Rodrigues.
Police have also detained Monseratte`s wife Jennifer & son Amit after a mob led by him, attacked Panaji police station on Tuesday night. Fifteen policemen were injured in the attack by mob on Tuesday night.

Another site for Appu Ghar in Delhi

The Supreme Court has asked the Central government to allot an alternative site for the Appu Ghar at market price within two months if it is possible. A bench headed by Justice Arijit Pasayat also asked the Delhi Development Authority & Land & Development Office to furnish their response through an affidavit detailing if they were ready to allocate another site for the most sought after recreation centre.

Hunger strike of India Airlines employees’ continues

Passing in Maths compulsory for Class X students

Orissa police retrieve stolen ammunition

ULFA calls Assam Bandh on Tuesday

The ULFA has called a twelve hour “Assam Bandh” on Tuesday, 19 February to protest against the arrest of Lachit Bordoloi the People’s Consultive Group member. Arabindo Rajkhova the chairman of Ulfa said that the bandh was called to protest against the arrest of Borodoloi & several other “human rights” activists.

The Patiala House court awarded life term to Romesh Sharma, alleged frontman of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, & five others for murdering his fashion designer girlfriend Kunjum Budhiraja nine years ago.
