At least three people have been killed & 50 others injured, including 50 policemen, in clashes between farmers & police in Greater Noida. Farmers were demanding adequate compensation for their acquired land in Greater Noida. Farmers were on protest mode for the past few days demanding enhanced compensation for their land acquired in 2006 by the Uttar Pradesh government.

Delhi residents are facing Traffic jams as heavy rains drenched national capital on Wednesday. The minimum temperature recorded was 26.6 degree Celsius, one point above normal while the maximum was 30.5 degrees, a deviation of three points.
The city received 23.0 mm rains in an hour. The Met office has predicted a cloudy sky with a few spells of rain and thunder showers in the next 24 hours.

Two earthquakes struck Andaman & Nicobar Islands

The two earthquakes have on Sunday struck Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The first earthquake of magnitude 6.2 felt around 1.50 pm. While the second earthquake of magnitude 5.2 felt around 2.57 pm.
Th epicentre of the earthquake was located in the sea about 145 km South-West of Port Blair. There were no reports of any damage or causalities.

At least three children have been injured after a bomb blast at Shantipara, one km from New Jalpaiguri Railway station & the bomb squad recovered four bottle bombs from the spot. The blast took place when four students of Gatebazar Railway school were roaming around in the area & picked up a bottle appearing to have some jelly like substance inside it.

Protest against screening of “Singh Is Kinng” in Amritsar

The first show of movie “Singh is Kinng” was disrupted on Friday at NM cinema hall in Amritsar after protest by Sikhs. The Sikhs were protesting against the Sikh community being projected “in a negative way” in the film starring Akshay Kumar, who is portraying a turbaned Sikh youth & Katrina Kaif.

Supreme Court: Ban on SIMI will continue

The Supreme Court has on Wednesday stayed the order of a HC tribunal lifting ban on Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). A petition challenging the tribunal’s verdict was mentioned before the bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, which agreed with the Centre seeking a grant of interim stay.

Joginder Singh Vedanti, Jathedar of Akal Takht, has on Tuesday resigned from his post alleging he was asked to resign by a top functionary of the SGPC (Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee)
However, Avtar Singh Makkar, president of SGPC said that Vedanti quit on health grounds. Vedanti resigned “voluntarily citing ill-health as the reason”, he added.

Delhi High Court Tribunal lifts ban on SIMI

A special tribunal has on Tuesday lifted the ban on Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). The tribunal, headed by Justice Geeta Mittal, a sitting Delhi High Court judge, observed that there is no evidence against SIMI showing them terrorists.
The judge was hearing the petition by SIMI, challenging the two-year ban imposed on it by the central government Feb 7, 2008.
