Flood in Punjab after breach in Satluj
Ferozepur: Around 20 villages along the Satluj have been submerged due to 100-feet breach in its embankments. Large posse of army personnel & locals were deployed for rescue operation after an aerial survey of flood-affected area. Rail traffic on the Jalandhar-Ferozepur route was stopped due to heavy water on the railway track.

Govt approved Sixth Pay Commission report
The government has on Thursday approved the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations, heaping civil & defense staff with a salary hike bonanza on the eve of the country’s 61st Independence Day.

11 killed as school bus fell into river in Mangalore
At least 11 people, including seven children, have been killed & 20 others missing when the bus they travelling was skidded off a bridge & fell into Palguni river near Gurupura, about 15 kms away from Manglore. While six children were rescued, search was on for other passengers.
The mishap occurred when the driver of the bus, carrying around 35 people, lost control over the vehicle which was on its way to the school. Karnataka Government announced Rs 1 lakh relief ….
3 killed, 50 injured as land agitation turns violent in Greater Noida
At least three people have been killed & 50 others injured, including 50 policemen, in clashes between farmers & police in Greater Noida. Farmers were demanding adequate compensation for their acquired land in Greater Noida. Heavy rain disrupts life in New Delhi
Delhi residents are facing Traffic jams as heavy rains drenched national capital on Wednesday. The minimum temperature recorded was 26.6 degree Celsius, one point above normal while the maximum was 30.5 degrees, a deviation of three points.

A minor explosion has been occurred in Nagarabhavi area of Bangalore on Friday. The explosives were kept in a dustbin in Nagarbhavi area, near Mysore Road in Bangalore, a private news agency reported.

Bomb Blast in Siliguri, 3 injured
At least three children have been injured after a bomb blast at Shantipara, one km from New Jalpaiguri Railway station & the bomb squad recovered four bottle bombs from the spot. The blast took place when four students of Gatebazar Railway school were roaming around in the area & picked up a bottle appearing to have some jelly like substance inside it.

Protest against screening of “Singh Is Kinng” in Amritsar
The first show of movie “Singh is Kinng” was disrupted on Friday at NM cinema hall in Amritsar after protest by Sikhs. The Sikhs were protesting against the Sikh community being projected “in a negative way” in the film starring Akshay Kumar, who is portraying a turbaned Sikh youth & Katrina Kaif.

Supreme Court: Ban on SIMI will continue
The Supreme Court has on Wednesday stayed the order of a HC tribunal lifting ban on Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). A petition challenging the tribunal’s verdict was mentioned before the bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, which agreed with the Centre seeking a grant of interim stay.
The Court issued a notice to the SIMI & posted the matter for hearing after three weeks. The special tribunal had on Tuesday lifted the ban on SIMI. ….
Manoj Kumar filed case against Shahrukh, Farah & Sony TV
Manoj Kumar has on Tuesday filed a case against actor Shahrukh Khan, Farah Khan & Sony Entertainment Television seeking to delete a scene from the movie “Om Shanti Om”, a private news agency reported.

Delhi High Court Tribunal lifts ban on SIMI
A special tribunal has on Tuesday lifted the ban on Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). The tribunal, headed by Justice Geeta Mittal, a sitting Delhi High Court judge, observed that there is no evidence against SIMI showing them terrorists.
The judge was hearing the petition by SIMI, challenging the two-year ban imposed on it by the central government Feb 7, 2008.

A bomb blast rocked north Kolkata on Sunday in which four killed & five injured. Bomb blast occurred in Chitpur area of Kolkata. The cause of the blast is yet to known.

An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 struck Pune & some other parts of Maharashtra in the wee hours on Wednesday. There were no immediate reports of any damage or casualty.

18 unexploded bombs discovered in Surat
Surat Police has on Tuesday discovered 18 exploded bombs in Surat. The bombs were found in Varachha Road area. The bombs have been defused.

Ishmeet Singh Sodhi, winner of 2007 Reality Show “Voice of India”, passed away after drowning in the swimming pool of Maldives hotel. Ishmeet Sodhi arrived Maldives this morning to perform in the Star Voice of Maldives on August 1.
Ishmeet Singh Sodhi belonged to Ludhiana of Punjab. Ishmeet was 19 years old.
