Delhi power rates increased

Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) increased electricity rates by five paise per unit in Delhi. An official said, “The commission in the current tariff order to increased the tariff by five paise per unit for all the consumers including domestic, agriculture & industrials. The rates which will come into force from March 1, this year will be applicable up to March 31 2009. There is, however, no increase in the fixed changes in any category”.

Fire at scrap factory in Sahibabad

A scrap factory in a garden area of Sahibabad caught a major fire on Saturday in which goods worth lakhs of rupees damaged.The incident took place in the garden area of Shalimar.
Four fire tenders & three foam tenders along with 150 personnel were engaged in the fire-fighting operations at scrap factory of Sahibabad but the fire could not be controlled yet. The fire was started at around 2.00 am in the godown.

Another site for Appu Ghar in Delhi

The Supreme Court has asked the Central government to allot an alternative site for the Appu Ghar at market price within two months if it is possible. A bench headed by Justice Arijit Pasayat also asked the Delhi Development Authority & Land & Development Office to furnish their response through an affidavit detailing if they were ready to allocate another site for the most sought after recreation centre.

Hunger strike of India Airlines employees’ continues

The Indian Airlines employees are on a hunger strike for the past three days demanding fundamental facilities for the workers. The condition of many of the striking employees has started deteriorating as the fast entered fourth day also. High alert in Mumbai, Delhi & in Lucknow

Life Term for Romesh in Kunjum murder case

The Patiala House court awarded life term to Romesh Sharma, alleged frontman of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, & five others for murdering his fashion designer girlfriend Kunjum Budhiraja nine years ago.
Judge S P Garg also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Sharma & Rs 5,000 each on his nephew Surinder Mishra & Tejinder Virdi alias Dolly. Other accused Hemchand, Santram & Ramesh were fined Rs 1,000 each.

Romesh Sharma convicted in Kunjum murder case

Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s frontman Romesh Sharma was on Friday convicted by a Delhi court for hatching conspiracy to murder his fashion designer girlfriend Kunjum Budhiraja. Five others Surinder Mishra, Hemchand, Santram, Ramesh & Tejinder Virdi alias Dolly were also found guilty for entering into conspiracy to eliminate Budhiraja.
They were convicted under section 302 & 120 B of Indian Penal Code. The court fixed February 18 for hearing arguments on quantum of sentence.

ASI arrested for accepting bribe in Kidney Racket

ASI (Assistant Sub Inspector) of Delhi Police Ravinder Kumar Singh arrested for allegedly taking Rs 19 lakh as bribe from kidney racket accused Upendra’s driver.
However, six others are absconding. Extortion charges slapped against all seven for allegedly accepting bribe from the accused in the kidney racket.

No bail for Yusuf, Rubeena

The sources said that the Supreme Court rejected the bail plea of two accused in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, the members of the Memon family Rubeena & Yusuf. While Rubeena’s bail plea was dismissed, the apex court ordered setting up of a medical board to asses Yusuf’s mental health.

MCD seals 37 properties in various parts of Delhi

The (MCD) Municipal Corporation of Delhi sealed 37 properties in various parts of the New Delhi for violation of the building bye-laws.
The sources said that 17 properties were sealed in the West Delhi Zone of the Vikaspuri area & nine were sealed in Shahdara (south) Zone in Shahdara area. “In Shahdara (north) & central zones, four properties each in Nandnagari & South Extension Part-II respectively were sealed.Three properties were sealed in the Najafgarh zone, sources said.

New Delhi’s minimum temperature remains below normal

Several parts of North India are still shivering under cold conditions with fog and mist disrupting air traffic. Delhiites also shivered due to cold but clear morning on Thursday with the minimum temperature remaining below normal. The Met office said that the minimum temperature at 6.4 degrees Celsius was three degrees below normal while the maximum at 20.5 degrees which was two degrees below normal.

Joginder 48 years old a resident of Faridabad was found dead in Lajpat Nagar area of South Delhi.
