It seems that Delhi metro is on a record setting spree. Just after six days of setting highest ever ridership, the premier transport of the capital has surpassed its earlier record as more than 18 lakh passengers commuted took metro on Monday. According to a DMRC official, the figure stood at 18, 30,944 as compared to the previous figure of 17,71,668 on July 25. The official further added that the ridership is witnessing increase during weekdays.

It is to be noted that DMRC has added 2.5 lakh passengers in the first six months and the average daily ridership which stood at 13.59 lakh in January 2011 stood at 16.08 lakh in July 2011. Notably metro has evolved as the most sought after transportation system in the capital as it is fast and efficient. The Noida line recorded the maximum ridership followed by the Gurgaon line. Significant increases in number of passengers were witnessed at stations such as Mandi House, Central Secretariat, Barakhamba Road, Garden Estate etc.

DMRC runs 200 train sets with 59 of them having 6 coaches. Delhi metro’s phase 3 is expected to be completed by 2016 which will make it one of the fastest expanding metro networks in the world carrying about 40 lakh commuters.

If you happen to be living in Delhi who is not so well versed in computers which prevents you to lodge complaint on MCD Facebook, you have a reason to rejoice. From Saturday onwards, Delhiites will no longer have to log on to Facebook and register complains to MCD regarding civic issues. All they need to do is to dial up a MCD helpline number 011-46485270 and directly file their complain which will be automatically put up on the social networking site.

In order to do it MCD has taken the help of Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer at IIT-Delhi which has developed a voice app via which users can call up the aforementioned number and their complain will be loged on MCD’s Facebook page.

The complainant will get a complaint number along with other details and once the complain has been addressed, another message will be sent.

New Delhi, October 03 — A gift of Delhi Metro to the Commonwealth Games just few hours before the opening ceremony in the capital as a new link was opened today morning from Central Secretariat to the Sarita Vihar. This is a crucial link to the CWG 2010 main venue, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

The new link, 15-kilometer corrider, will make convenient for people to attend the opening ceremony of the XIX Commonwealth Games. The link was inaugurated in the presence of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Managing Director E Sreedharan. At 8 in the morning, a brand new train began its journey from the Central Secretariat metro station. With this new link, the Phase-2 of the Delhi Metro has been almost completed except the Airport Express Line.

E Sreedharan told to the media, “It is a matter of great pride and glory for all of us in Delhi Metro that the Badarpur line has been substantially opened up to Sarita Vihar. This marks almost the completion of our Phase-II project.”

He added further that the Phase-II of the Delhi Metro was originally scheduled to be completed by March 2011, but it was advanced in view of the Commonwealth Games.

He said, “We have advanced all the target dates and completed all the lines now except the airport line which is also complete but which is not able to get the safety certificate. We hope to get the safety certificate for the airport line also very shortly. So with this, the phase two work is over.”

The train frequency on this line will be 2 minutes and 40 seconds and throughout the inaugural function of the CWG, the train movement will be personally monitored by senior Metro officers from the Operations Control Room. The line is of 15 km and 6 km of it is underground from Central Secretariat to Lajpat Nagar. The interchange facility is at the Central Secretariat and the line is expected to be further expanded in about 10 days, upto Badarpur.

New Delhi, September 11 — The Yamuna flooded several several parts of Delhi after the water level of it climbed two metres above the danger marke. It threatened the low-lying areas of the Capital to submerge.

The Tibetan market is under water in the festive day of Muslims and shopkeepers are watching in fear as Yamuna rises more and more gradually.

The water has reached the waist level in the area and the hapless residents are grappling with what is an extremely difficult situation.

A resident of the area said, “Kuch logon ne kaha ki baad aayegi, kuch ne kaha nahi aayegi. Isliye hum log nahi gaye. Kuch pata hi nahi tha, ab itna bura haal hai (Some people said the area will be flooded, while others refused. So we got confused and didn’t leave. Now we are stranded).”

At 12:30 p.m the water level had rose to the level of 206.70 metre in Yamuna, which is 1.87 metre above the danger mark. It is learned that the water may rise further as neighboring Haryana would released more water.

Temporary shelter at the nearby school has been set up by government.

The flood water of Yamuna has entered many areas including Yamuna Vihar, Madanpur, Usmanpur, Sonia Vihar, Jaitpur, Nigambodh, Tibet Market and Yamuna Bazar.
