Work at Tata plant in Singur comes to standstill
Aug 29th, 2008 | Category:Breaking News, Cities News, India News, National News, States NewsWork at Tata plant comes to standstill after Congress protesters blocked entry to Tata Motors “Nano”. Mamata Banerjee’s followers laid siege around the Nano plant not allowing any employee to enter the factory. Tata workers also stayed away fearing violence.
The arm-twisting tactic is aimed at forcing the state government to accept Trinamool demand of returning 400 acres of land, which the party claims was forcible taken from farmers. But it is likely to heighten fears about security, which Ratan Tata has said, could force him to pull out Rs 1,500 crore investment from West Bengal.
