West Bengal Bandh begins
The 12 hour West Bengal Bandh which was announced by Trinamool Congress & Left Opposition Socialist Unity Centre of India has began at 6 am on Monday. The bandh call was initially given to protest against the spiralling prices of food items but later issues like alleged terror by CPM cadres ahead of next month’s Panchayat election & the alleged attack on Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee’s convoy were added.
Squatting was reported on railway tracks in some sections of Howrah & Sealdah division of Eastern Railway. However, air traffic between Kolkata & other destinations in the country was normal.
The Airports Authority of India banned the entry of visitors inside the airport building to avoid overcrowding as many passengers reached the airport ahead of schedule to avoid being stuck on the way due to the bandh.
